GHSL I 2009

An Epic Battle!!!  Cut-Throat 4, Ravenclaw 3

Amidst a packed and animated Polar Peoria crowd, we witnessed a classic championship game unfold.  Like a couple of prison fighters, the first 5 minutes was a feel-out process, just trying to get a hold on emotions and excitement.  Burrito Ciurro struck first with a nice garbage feed from the Grand Kenyon.  The Blumer and Nicky Carroll were battling and we stayed 1-0 until the veteran core of The Admiral, Captain Morgan and Brady Bunch Morgan tied it at 1-1.

 Action was physical, as the Magician set the tone with a bomb on Morgan, and Wolfy came right back to almost KO Big Rad!!!  Charlie Dangle scored a beautiful breakaway tally to put Cut-Throat at 2-1.  Blumer stopped two more Dangle breakaways… just an excellent job by this young goalie.  Jagr Mohr and the Big Eadesy hooked up to make it a 3-1 affair and things were looking bleak for Ravenclaw.  The veteran Barletta came in with some magic, just standing on his head to maintain Ravenclaw’s chance.  At one point, he made 13 straight saves. Minutes later, and with momentum, Wolfy threw some garbage on net making it 3-2!!  Then the leader Captain Phillips, in the tradition of Yzerman, Crosby and Messier, came through and tied it up 3-3!!

It became an absolute pressure cooker, a kiln if you will.  A big play was going to make the difference.  Then, 3-year Mission and 2-year GHSL veteran “Frausty Dew” puts a puck toward the net. It gets tipped and Frausty gets the garbage…a glorious game winner.  Ravenclaw pulled the tender, but in the end,  Cut-Throat is the champion my friends!
